Hamburg is the latest German airport to use OCEM after successful projects in Berlin and Paderborn
OCEM Airfield Technology has begun work on a new LED lighting installation at the international Hamburg Airport, expanding its presence in the German market and demonstrating that LED is the right choice for airports experiencing passenger and cargo growth.
The Italian company was chosen to supply about 1,500 lighting signals, two-thirds of which incorporate energy-saving LED technology, for the airport runway, landing zone, entrances and taxiways.
In particular, OCEM is supplying triple-lane LED taxiway centerline lighting that is allowing the airport to implement a fast-traffic management system for aircraft headed to the terminal. The project also includes a robust taxiway inset edge with omnidirectional lighting to include a lens protection ring.
The installation began in May and is being completed in partnership with the German Honeywell Building Solutions Gmbh. It follows successfull installations in Berlin in 2015 and Paderborn in 2014, solidifying OCEM’s position in Northern Germany.
Hamburg is Gemany’s fifth largest airport by number of passengers, experiencing 5.8 percent growth and serving a record 15.6 million passengers in 2015. Its air freight also rose by 7.4 percent last year, thanks in part to a new route between Hamburg and Dubai.
The new installation shows that OCEM’s energy-saving LED products offer reliability and cost savings to airports as they accommodate growing passenger and cargo traffic.
The company was a pioneer in the development of LED, installing the first LED lighting signals more than 10 years ago, and is uniquely qualified to help airports make the switch to the more energy efficient technology.
OCEM offers an energy savings product line that includes constant current regulators (IGBT and SCR) and telecontrol systems (PC and PLC) in compliance with numerous international standards.
